Frank Cairone, a top prospect for the Milwaukee Brewers, was hospitalized following a serious car accident in New Jersey, the team confirmed on Saturday.
In a press release, the Brewers stated, “Left-handed pitcher and 2025 draft pick Frank Cairone was involved in a traffic accident yesterday in Franklinville, New Jersey. Frank is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in New Jersey with the support of his family.”
The Brewers continued, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Frank and his family during this difficult time. We will provide updates on Frank’s condition as they become available.”
At just 18, Cairone was chosen by Milwaukee in the second round of the draft, being the 68th overall pick after excelling at Delsea Regional High School.
Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 215 pounds, Cairone surged in rankings after a standout senior season where he struck out 94 batters across 44 innings, often reaching the mid-90s with his fastball.
His performances attracted numerous scouts, and he mentioned to the Courier-Post that he felt like the go-to guy on the team.
Former Yankees pitcher Mike Witt, a two-time All-Star, noted, “Frank embodies everything you want. He’s dedicated to improving and seems to know his potential.”
Despite being only 17 at the time of the draft, Cairone decided to bypass his commitment to Coastal Carolina to pursue a professional career.
Milwaukee picked him as a compensatory selection for another talented right-hander from New Jersey, Kris Lebonas, who chose to attend Wake Forest instead of signing the previous year.
While he hasn’t made his professional debut yet, Cairone is currently ranked as the Brewers’ No. 26 prospect.
In addition to his physical attributes, Cairone made a strong impression at the MLB Draft Combine in Arizona, particularly during a bullpen session at Chase Field, home of the Diamondbacks.
Reflecting on the combine, Cairone expressed, “It was fantastic, and I hope to get the chance to pitch on a big league mound someday.”
