Brewers star shortstop Willie Adames asked Mets DH/former Brewer to resolve differences after a “charming” game on the field following Winker's two-run triple in Game 1. He admitted that he offered to meet Jesse Winker in the parking lot.
“I told him that when we were squawking at each other,” Adams told the Post, corroborating lip-reading expert Jon Boy's excellent report.
“I was there (at the venue),” Adames added, noting that no blinkers appeared.
Sources told the Post that Winker was upset that Frankie Montas hit the ball into his backside last Friday. When asked about the incident, Winker simply answered, “Why?” and walked away.
According to John Boy (and Adames basically admitted), Winker taunted the Brewers and, after seeing Adames looking at him, repeated, “What do you want to do about it?” He reportedly replied, “I'll leave it to you.'' Find out in the parking lot after the game. ”
Adames told the Post: At this point, I have no intention of backing down. So we were just meowing. I don't know what he was angry about. ”
The Brewers hope Adames returns in free agency, but understand it's a long time coming. He is expected to command more than $200 million for a season in which he hit 32 home runs.
“I want to go back. I love them and they love me,” Adams said. “But we can't control that. Let's see if they need me.”
The Dodgers made an ambitious attempt to trade Adames in the spring. In addition to Los Angeles, the Giants and Braves, who also had a shot at acquiring him, are likely to be among the pursuers.
