Giants linebacker Brian Barnes was visibly upset following his team’s narrow 33-32 defeat to the Broncos on Sunday. His frustration was apparent as he left the field in Denver, where the Broncos scored all 33 points in the fourth quarter alone.
While the specific words Barnes used aren’t entirely clear, as he was heading to the locker room, he was overheard alongside backup quarterback Russell Wilson, expressing his displeasure quite explicitly.
Barnes, serving as a team captain and having a standout performance, was particularly angry about the Giants’ strategy of dropping eight men into coverage during the final drive. This allowed Denver quarterback Bo Nix the time he needed to find his targets without much pressure.
Ultimately, Denver’s Will Lutz managed to kick a 39-yard field goal right as time ran out, securing the Broncos their fourth consecutive win.
In Sunday’s game, Barnes recorded two sacks, three tackles for loss, and two quarterback hits. Unfortunately for the Giants, this loss pushed their record to 2-5.
Coach Burns took the blame for the loss, noting the mistakes made during the game. He urged his players to step up, emphasizing that they had chances to win but ultimately gave the game away.
“We made some mistakes… just didn’t perform well enough. We were in positions to win, but we let it slip away,” he reflected.
Interestingly, the Broncos’ 33 points scored in the fourth quarter set a record for the most points by a team that was shut out in the first three quarters of an NFL game.
The Giants faced quite the uphill battle, trailing significantly at 19-0 and 26-8 at various points. As the game came to a close, Coach Daboll was seen throwing his headset in frustration.
After having previously defeated the Eagles 34-17 in Week 6, the Giants now look ahead to their upcoming matchup against the Eagles, who currently hold a 5-2 record, this Sunday in Philadelphia.
