Brian Harman details his ‘bromance’ with Max Homa thanks to their Ryder Cup experience

They couldn't be more opposites, but two peas in a pod.

Brian Herman and Max Homa, the only Americans to win a four-way match at the 2023 Ryder Cup, have become great friends thanks to Saturday's pairing.

On Saturday morning, Herman and Homa defeated Shane Lowry and Sepp Straka 4&2, giving Team USA its first win in Rome. Later that day, captain Zach Johnson rode with a hot hand and the move paid off. In the afternoon, Herman and Homa achieved another victory by defeating Tommy Fleetwood and Nikolai Hujgaard 2&1.

“That Saturday, Max and I won two games and had a really great day. We bonded. It felt like we made eight years worth of memories in one day.” , Herman said Tuesday when asked about his favorite Ryder Cup memory.

“I'll never forget Saturday's Ryder Cup. Of course I wish it had turned out differently. I wish we had won and I wish we could have played them two more days. [But] I feel like I found my forever partner in all of this. ”

It will be interesting to see who will captain Team USA at Bethpage Black in 2025.

Whether it's Tiger Woods, Stewart Cink or someone else, Team USA's captain will have to team up with Herman and Homa again.

“He wants to beat you, he wants to get a big lead and he wants to look good doing it,” Herman said of Homa.

“He is the perfect competitor and I couldn't ask for anything better as a partner.”

Homa led Team USA with 3.5 points scored on Marco Simone. Herman earned two points as Patrick Cantlay was the only American player to score at least two points in Rome.

The Europeans defeated the Americans, but at least Herman still has this lasting memory of his great second day with Homa.

“Max and I really started dating. I don't want to say we started becoming friends because we were always friendly. I didn't really know Max. But in the last six to eight months… And we got pretty close,” Herman explained.

“I just started cutting a lot. It happened organically. It was a really great experience.”

Herman gained notoriety in the sports world after winning last year's British Open Championship by six strokes.

He relied on his driving precision and superb short game to dominate Royal Liverpool through tough conditions on his way to winning the Claret Jag.

He also finished in the top 10 seven times throughout 2023, qualifying him for the FedEx Cup.

Homa, meanwhile, recorded 13 top-10 finishes and finished 10th in the FedEx Cup standings. The two often competed in the same events, so they had plenty of time to bond over the season.

But nothing creates a stronger bond than the Ryder Cup, even between two players with completely different backgrounds and personalities.

“Of course we couldn't be more different,” Herman joked.

“He's West Coast from UC Berkeley. I'm a redneck guy from South Georgia. On the golf course, he's a killer and I love that mentality of his.”

Herman is also a murderer himself. Not only did he dash the hopes of all of Royal Liverpool's English fans, the former Georgia Bulldog also loved to hunt.

Perhaps he will take Homa out on hunting trips in the future.

That would be a wonderful sight. And knowing Homa's contagious and comedic personality, he'll likely have a great time, and he'll also have a fun time telling you stories.
