LSU Moves to Dismiss Head Coach Brian Kelly
LSU is taking steps to fire head coach Brian Kelly after a significant defeat against Texas A&M. Following this loss, university officials convened on Sunday to deliberate on Kelly’s future.
Sources have indicated that LSU administrators are engaged in ongoing discussions about Kelly’s position, which may involve conversations with the governor as well. While there’s no immediate solution reached yet, these talks are unfolding.
Complicating matters is the university’s search for a new president, with the school having announced five candidates. In the interim, Governor Jeff Landry is expected to play a key role, likely meeting with major stakeholders in the university.
A confrontation reportedly arose between Kelly and LSU Athletic Director Scott Woodward during a meeting where they debated which coaching staff members needed to be let go.
Sources suggest that the core issue in the clash between Woodward and Kelly revolved around the discussion of firing offensive coordinator Joe Sloan. Kelly proposed to also dismiss offensive line coach Brad Davis, but Woodward disagreed, leading to Kelly exiting the premises.
Additional details provided by Trey Wallace indicate that when Kelly arrived at the facility that morning, he had already been reviewing a list of assistant coaches to be fired. This led to a tense exchange with Woodward where both sides had strong opinions on the matter. Following that heated meeting, Kelly left immediately, and Woodward instructed the assistant coaches to head home for the day.
Shortly after, Governor Landry was summoned to assess the situation and discuss potential resolutions.
Lamentably, just hours later, Pete Nacos from On3 reported that Kelly had indeed been fired by LSU.
Breaking news: LSU has officially waived Brian Kelly, according to sources.
Details surrounding the termination are still being finalized. Meanwhile, Frank Wilson is expected to step in as the new head coach to take over the team.
