Commanders’ Running Back Brian Robinson Jr. Skips Practice
Brian Robinson Jr. did not participate in practice on Wednesday after missing Washington’s preseason game on Monday. Coach Dan Quinn mentioned to the media that there was no specific reason given for his absence.
The circumstances surrounding Robinson’s situation have led to speculation regarding his future with the team. He has been the main running back for Washington over the past three seasons.
“Brian is absent from today’s practice,” Quinn stated. “We hope to come to some sort of resolution soon.”
Robinson is currently in the final year of his rookie contract, which the Commanders drafted him as a third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Throughout his time with the organization, he has accumulated 2,329 rushing yards across 41 games. Last season was particularly notable, as he set a new personal record with 799 rushing yards and scored a career-high eight touchdowns.
This week, reports surfaced suggesting that the Commanders might consider trading Robinson in the near future, and if a trade doesn’t happen, they could potentially cut him. Given the time left on his contract, the process of trading him could be complicated, especially at 26, despite his appeal to other teams.
The Commanders appear to be moving forward with a roster including running backs like Austin Ekeler, Chris Rodriguez, and rookie Jacoley Crosskey Merritt.
Quinn explained that the decision to hold Robinson out of Monday’s preseason game was a collective one involving the team and players. He also said he had a conversation with Robinson on Sunday regarding the situation.
“That kind of news isn’t always easy to share,” Quinn remarked about his discussion with Robinson.
This situation unfolds alongside an ongoing contract dispute between the team and wide receiver Terry McLaurin.
