Brian Walche, a man from Massachusetts charged with dismembering his wife, was assaulted in prison on Thursday, just weeks ahead of his murder trial.
The attack took place in a residential area of the Dedham Correctional Center before 10 PM.
While the Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office did not officially name Walche as the victim, his attorney, Larry Tipton, confirmed to Masslive.com that Walche had been stabbed.
Afterward, Walche was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston for medical attention and returned to prison later that night, as stated by the sheriff’s office.
According to the statement, “Other individuals involved were restrained by officers and makeshift blunt instruments have been recovered.”
The matter is currently under investigation.
Walche faces accusations of murdering and dismembering his wife, Anna, in January 2023.
He is set to appear in court in October.
Anna Walche was a mother of three young children and a real estate professional in Washington, D.C. She disappeared on New Year’s Day 2023, with reports of her absence emerging a few days later.
Her body has never been found.
Surveillance footage from a Home Depot allegedly showed Brian purchasing several items, including three mops, brushes, splash-resistant goggles, and a utility knife.
Investigators suspect he used these tools to dispose of his wife’s remains.
During the search for Anna, authorities discovered a hacksaw with “small bone fragments” in a trash can located across the street from Walche’s mother’s residence.
In the days following her disappearance, it was reported that Walche used his son’s iPad to conduct numerous Google searches related to body disposal, as noted by prosecutors.
Prior to Anna’s disappearance, Walche had hired a private investigator, believing his wife may have been unfaithful.
At that point, their marriage had been strained, partly due to Walche’s unrelated legal troubles—he was under house arrest for allegedly selling counterfeit Andy Warhol paintings.
