Bringing Back the Great Depression: A Call to Reshape America!

Saturday Night Live Recently, similar to certain economists, he has delved into the potential that President Donald Trump's pioneering global tariffs could result in economic turmoil for the country.

The show’s opening sketch revisited Trump’s Rose Garden speech from Wednesday, during which he disclosed tariffs ranging from 10% to 54% on all imports. These duties are paid by US importers, and experts caution that this could increase prices for consumers.

Trump contends that the aim of these tariffs is to reclaim manufacturing jobs, which are currently predominantly held by nations with lower labor expenses.

In the sketch, James Austin Johnson takes on the role of Trump and recognizes that the method for calculating tariff rates across different countries is complex, yet insists it ultimately leads to economic success.

“I understand what numbers signify,” the character declared. “They signify we're going to make America affluent again – Mawa!”

However, Trump concedes that the nation will likely face challenging times before achieving prosperity and introduces a new slogan.

“It's going to be a fantastic, immense depression,” the character stated. “We're going to have people eating their pets. That's entertaining.”

Clarifying the economic rationale behind his initiative, Trump in the sketch explains: “It's straightforward economics, alright: If the stock market continuously declines, it indicates you can’t go anywhere.”

Faith also featured prominently in the planning. Johnson’s Trump reassured citizens. “At a certain point, your funds will disappear. That’s okay. We’re going to recover it.”

Mike Myers made an appearance as Trump’s advisor Elon Musk. He interrupted the speech and sought empathy for Tesla’s challenges as CEO. The automaker was encountering protests and destruction that could likely escalate Musk’s involvement in the dismissal of thousands of federal employees at Trump’s behest.

“Suddenly, no one is a fan of Tesla cars,” lamented Myers’ Musk. “I pondered why, and I answered: for me.”

Musk took the chance to advertise the new Tesla Model V. “The first electric vehicle in history is entirely self-destructive,” and “boasts AI-driven graffiti.”

Despite the marvels of such vehicles, Musk voiced skepticism that tariffs could yield favorable results.

“I'm exceptionally intelligent,” he confidently stated. “And these tariffs seem incredibly foolish.”
