Bristol Palin shares discouraging news about her facial paralysis

Bristol Palin has shared that her face still appears “distorted” a year following her diagnosis with a neurological condition that leads to facial paralysis.

On Thursday, during a Thanksgiving “fit check” featuring her 7-year-old daughter Atlee, Palin offered an update via her Instagram Stories.

She noted her outfit—a mix of black skinnies, a long-sleeve top, and a denim shirt, topped off with a vintage Louis Vuitton piece—and then, somewhat humorously, added, “And still the crooked face.”

Palin initially opened up about her health issue back in January, describing it as “stress-induced.” She recalled the day it began, saying she woke up with an unsettling sensation on her face. “My mouth was pulled towards me and it felt a little strange,” she explained in her Instagram Story. “Within a few hours, the whole left side of my face went numb, just numb. I couldn’t really blink, I couldn’t move the side of my face at all. It was just crazy.”

After undergoing tests, including a CT scan, she was prescribed “steroids and other medications.” She noted that nothing definitive came back and mentioned how some assume it was simply Bell’s palsy due to stress and lack of sleep, but she believes the stress played a significant role.

Bristol described her facial appearance as looking “crazy” initially, but mentioned it was “much better than before.” Although it was challenging, she felt she was gradually regaining some sensations. The experience was “a little painful,” but she saw the discomfort as a good sign of improvement.

Despite not having fully recovered to her expectations, she’s shared her journey with her followers, embracing a more positive perspective. Reflecting on her past decisions regarding cosmetic surgeries, she expressed a change of heart and emphasized she would not pursue such procedures again, feeling mixed emotions about her appearance.

“When I feel insecure, this was wild, so I’m going to remember this and be really grateful for a functioning face,” she said.
