Brit Hume on turmoil within Democratic Party, calls for Biden to drop out

Fox News chief political analyst Brit Hume has commented on growing calls for President Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race amid questions about his mental health, saying the Democratic Party is in a “state of total distress”.

“He now appears in the public’s eyes as someone who is in no position to serve a second term, even if he is in a position to serve out this one,” Hume told guest anchor Gillian Turner on Wednesday’s “Special Report.” “The question is, what, if anything, can the Democratic Party, which is in total distress, do about it?”

White House national security communications adviser John Kirby told Fox News host Martha MacCallum on “The Story” that Biden would hold a “full-scale” press conference.

“We’re definitely going to have more than four reporters,” Kirby said. “It’s going to be a full-blown press conference with multiple reporters, [Biden] He called out to them himself.”

Hume noted the pressure Biden faces ahead of the press conference, saying it would be “pretty hard” for the president to change course after being heavily criticized for his performance at CNN’s presidential debate.

“I think the impression that the debate left, coupled with a lot of the events that happened before the debate, that the public seemed to know about but many in the media didn’t, is going to be pretty indelible, and I think we can all hope that the president will do well in his press conference tomorrow,” Hume said.

“There is no doubt [this] The NATO event is an important one. He seems to have handled it effectively. But I think it may all be too late.”
