Britney Spears Arrested for Drunk Driving
Britney Spears reportedly referred to herself as an “angel” until her arrest for drunk driving in March, based on documents obtained. According to a California Highway Patrol officer, the 44-year-old pop star stated, “I’ll probably drink four bottles of wine and take care of you.” She then declined to take an alcohol screening test.
Once in handcuffs, police discovered a brown purse in her vehicle containing a bottle of Adderall, which was not prescribed to her. Additionally, officers found an empty wine glass positioned between the driver and passenger seats.
During the incident, when asked about drug use prior to driving, Spears mentioned taking 200 milligrams of Lamictal and 40 milligrams of Prozac, which are prescription medications typically used for seizures and depression.
Police noted a “distinctive odor of an alcoholic beverage” coming from the car while initiating a drunk driving investigation. Spears was hesitant to exit her vehicle and initially requested legal representation, but eventually agreed to speak with officers.
Interestingly, she expressed concerns over being pranked and harassed in the past, indicating reluctance to cooperate fully. Officers described her behavior as showing rapid shifts in mood, from confrontational to somewhat submissive.
Throughout interactions with officers, Spears reportedly addressed her level of intoxication, rating it as “zero” on a scale of 0 to 10, with 0 being sober. However, officers observed her speaking quickly and slurring her words, alongside physical signs like unsteady walking.
At one point, she was even noted to briefly speak with a British accent. Following a drug evaluation by the police, it was determined that she was under the influence of a stimulant, leading to a request for a blood test at a local hospital. Reports indicate she attempted to delay this procedure and became argumentative.
Eventually, Spears was taken to a hospital for chemical blood tests, then transported to Ventura County Jail. Earlier this month, the initial DUI charge was dismissed after she pleaded guilty to a count of recklessness instead. This plea included a fine, 12 months suspended, and a requirement to complete a drink-driving course.
The plea deal, according to the district attorney’s office, is standard for individuals without a history of drunk driving or related incidents. District Attorney Eric Nasarenko noted that she took responsibility for her actions promptly following her arrest.
Authorities had charged her with unlawfully operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and drugs after her March 4th arrest. Upon reviewing records, it was noted that she was released the next morning around 6:07 a.m. A representative confirmed that Spears voluntarily entered a treatment facility post-arrest, although details regarding her care were not disclosed.
