Brittany Mahomes seems to triple down on stance amid Trump support backlash on Instagram

Brittany Mahomes, wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, recently hinted at her support for Donald Trump and then defended her position on social media. She spoke further on the topic on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model and former college football player appeared to have “liked” one of her latest Instagram posts, which received several comments suggesting support for Trump.

One of the comments she liked read, “TRUMP-VANCE 2024.”

The other comment was a reference to her recent social media activity in which she implied support for Trump and drew backlash from those who do not support the former president. The comment read, “Glad to see you're not backing down. We are all entitled to our opinions and should not be threatened into caveing ​​in.”

Kelly Stafford, wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, seemed to like the second comment.

TMZ Sports and the New York Daily News both reported Mahomes' likes. By Wednesday evening, it appeared Mahomes had not liked those comments.

Mahomes first voiced his support for Trump on August 13, when he “liked” an Instagram post by Trump that outlined his “2024 Republican platform.”

The post sparked an intense backlash against the superstar quarterback's wife, including from fans of Taylor Swift, who is dating Chiefs star Travis Kelce. Multiple fan pages dedicated to Swift posted screenshots of the post on social media and slammed Mahomes.

The model responded to the criticism on her Instagram Stories on Friday.

“Let's be honest: harboring hatred as an adult means you have deep-rooted issues from childhood that you refuse to heal,” she writes. “It's impossible for a fully developed brain to hate seeing others doing well.”

She posted another cryptic message on social media on Monday that appeared to refer to the recent controversy.

“Contrary to the mood of the world today, you can disagree with someone and still love them. You can disagree and still be kind to them,” she wrote on Aug. 26. “Read that again!”

Patrick Mahomes has never publicly endorsed any politician or political party.

He told Time magazine in April that he wouldn't say who he'd vote for in the next election.

“I'm not trying to pressure people to vote for a particular president,” Patrick said. “No matter who you believe, I want people to speak up. I want people to investigate.”

Brittany's recent social media activity has earned her praise from conservative political commentator Candace Owens, who defended the NFL player's wife on this week's episode of her “Candace” podcast.

“You're allowed to like a post because this is an election. You don't have to vote for one side or the other. And that's exactly what Brittany Mahomes did. She definitely stepped up to it. Apparently she liked a Trump post.”

Brittany and Patrick were born and raised in East Texas. They began dating while attending Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas, where Patrick was the quarterback and Brittany played football. According to DataUSA, Whitehouse is a town of about 8,500 people that has a history of voting Republican.

Patrick Mahomes reportedly donated $500 to the NFL Players Association Political Action Committee. An open secretAccording to the site, the NFLPA donated $45,000 to Democrats and $35,000 to Republicans.
