Brittany Snow Critiques Hollywood’s Ageism
Brittany Snow has recently addressed the issue of how Hollywood treats women over a certain age. During an appearance on the podcast “Las Culturistas,” the 39-year-old actress expressed her concerns about ageist stereotypes in the entertainment industry and discussed her latest project, “The Hunting Wives.”
Snow remarked that Hollywood seems to diminish the importance of sex scenes for women past 32, particularly regarding nudity and the exploration of their sexuality. She emphasized, “Hollywood wants to downplay sex scenes for women after the age of 32, specifically nudity and things like women awakening to their own sexuality.” She further elaborated that, “No, this is still going to be prevalent in women’s lives even after they reach Hollywood age.”
In “The Hunting Wives,” Snow portrays Sophie, who relocates from Chicago to a small Texas town, where she becomes captivated by an alluring socialite named Margo, played by Malin Akerman. This new friendship takes a complicated turn, leading Sophie into a tangled web of obsession, betrayal, and even murder.
While discussing her collaboration with Akerman, Snow highlighted how they set clear boundaries for their intimate scenes. “We had a very clear understanding of what we were going to do,” she said. “In our late 30s and 40s, we’re going from strength to strength. This is for the female gaze, and we’ll strive for that.” She also mentioned that they were never embarrassed to say if something felt too much, contributing to a supportive environment during filming.
In a cover interview with a magazine, Snow praised Akerman for how respectful and attentive he was during their intimate scenes. “I find that a lot of men in sex scenes focus on how they look rather than considering your experience,” she noted. “Malin was very cooperative, asking if I was okay and what she could do.”
“The Hunting Wives” gained significant attention upon its release, attracting 5.2 million views in its first week. Snow and Akerman excitedly announced a second season, sharing their enthusiasm on social media. Akerman mentioned that they anticipate the new season to be out by summer 2026, noting the positive experience during this past filming that warranted an expedited release.
Snow is also involved in other projects, including a Hulu drama series and a Netflix show set to premiere soon.
