The victim's family filed a civil lawsuit against the Liberty Elementary School District and Zamora's husband, saying they knew about the sexual abuse before it became public.

The complaint also accused her husband of not reporting the abuse to authorities after learning of it. He settled the case for an undisclosed amount in 2019.

In May 2020, Zamora filed for divorce from her husband of four years, claiming that their relationship was “irreparably broken.”
