Connecticut Sun Prepares for Exciting Season with Brittney Griner
The Connecticut Sun is buzzing with anticipation as it approaches its final season. They’ve reportedly finalized a seven-figure deal to bring in Brittney Griner, as noted by sideline reporter Terrika Foster-Brasby.
Griner, who has been named an All-Star nine times and is a future Hall of Famer, is one of the most celebrated players in WNBA history. She’s gearing up for her 13th season after being the top pick in the 2013 draft.
This signing comes shortly after the WNBA adopted a new collective bargaining agreement, which, among other benefits, will significantly raise player salaries and create millionaires among a select group for the first time since the league started.
In related news, Jackie Young will be returning to the Las Vegas Aces on a reported one-year, $1.19 million contract.
Last season, Griner played for the Atlanta Dream, and she turned 35 in October. She played a pivotal role in the team’s unexpected journey to the No. 3 seed, ending the season with a record of 30-14.
Standing at 6 feet 9 inches, Griner started the first 25 games before shifting to a bench role, where she played the last 14 regular-season games and all three playoff games.
Even though the Dream won their first playoff game convincingly, they were knocked out in the first round by the Indiana Fever, who didn’t have Caitlin Clark on their side.
In terms of stats, Griner had a challenging 2025 season, finishing with career lows of 9.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game.
Previously, Griner spent 11 seasons with the Phoenix Mercury, solidifying her status as one of the league’s greats. She was part of the 2014 WNBA championship team, which also featured stars like Diana Taurasi and DeWanna Bonner.
Beyond the WNBA, Griner is a six-time All-WNBA selection and has earned three Olympic gold medals with Team USA during the 2016, 2020, and 2024 Games. Additionally, she contributed to two World Cup victories in 2014 and 2018.
In 2021, she was honored on the WNBA’s W25 list, which recognizes the top 25 players in the league’s history, celebrating its 25th anniversary.
