Misstep During Broadcast at Sugar Bowl
During the recent College Football Playoff broadcast, commentator Greg McElroy had a noteworthy slip-up. He was covering the Sugar Bowl game between Ole Miss and Georgia, where Ole Miss secured their victory with a last-minute field goal.
Interestingly, before that critical moment, McElroy attempted to commend Rebels running back Kewan Lacy but mistakenly referred to him by the wrong name.
“I love the way Kylen Lacey runs,” McElroy said, before quickly correcting himself.
The name mix-up is particularly poignant, as Kylen Lacy, a former wide receiver at LSU, tragically died by suicide last year during legal troubles that followed a fatal car accident involving an elderly man. Lacy had faced charges including reckless driving and hit-and-run related to the incident.
A police report indicated that multiple witnesses claimed Lacy’s driving contributed to the crash, leading to serious charges against him.
Having transferred to LSU, Kylen Lacy had a stellar 2024 season with impressive stats that suggested he might be headed for the NFL draft.
Meanwhile, Kewan Lacy had a strong performance during the Sugar Bowl, running for 93 yards and scoring two touchdowns, enabling Ole Miss to advance to the College Football Playoff semifinals.
In the semifinals, the Rebels will face No. 10 Miami, with the winner set to meet either No. 1 Indiana or No. 5 Oregon.
