The San Francisco 49ers Are Back in Playoff Contention
The San Francisco 49ers have made a return to the playoffs after a challenging season last year that saw them sidelined due to injuries, marking their first absence since 2020. Now, they’re eyeing a long-awaited Super Bowl appearance.
Brock Purdy expressed his appreciation for the team’s journey back to January football, stating it’s time to get to work.
“Of course, we’re thankful for this opportunity, but we need to stay focused and find ways to win on the road. We have to approach this with something to prove,” Purdy said during a recent interview. Reflecting on last year’s playoff miss, he added, “That wasn’t the goal, but we’ve turned a new leaf. It’s a new team, and we’re ready to move forward.”
Unfortunately, the Niners faced a setback this weekend, having lost to the Seattle Seahawks at home, risking both the NFC West title and the number one seed.
“It was definitely our aim last week, and we gave it our all. But in the NFL, things can slip away,” Purdy commented. He emphasized the importance of resilience, saying they must quickly shift their focus to the next challenge against Philadelphia. “We need to be mentally prepared and find a way to finish strong in the fourth quarter. It’s a tough situation, but we can hold our own if we play our game,” he stated.
Purdy, once the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, has surprised many, currently vying for his second Super Bowl appearance in three seasons as a starter. He credits his growth to head coach Kyle Shanahan.
“Having a coach who believes in you is vital. Kyle has been a great mentor to me, guiding me in my development as a quarterback and a professional. I’m very grateful for that,” he shared. “You never know when change will come with coaching, so it’s essential to make the most of these opportunities.”
While there’s buzz about potentially playing the Super Bowl in front of a home crowd, Purdy stressed the need to stay grounded. “We know it takes everything to get there. Nothing comes easy. We’re the number one seed with a bye this year, but we still had to fight hard to reach the NFC Championship after trailing by 17 points,” he explained. “It’s not guaranteed; you’ve got to earn it.”
Purdy concluded by reminding everyone just how demanding the NFL can be, and the collective effort required to reach their goals. “Every season is a challenge. We’re aware of that, and we’ll give it our all,” he said.
