Brock Purdy’s new contract ranking him among the NFL’s top-paid quarterbacks

The San Francisco 49ers have made quite a splash with their quarterback, Brock Purdy. After being selected as the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, he signed a four-year deal valued at $3.74 million, which included a signing bonus of $77,012.

Now, Purdy’s second contract is significantly more impressive.

He and the 49ers inked a substantial five-year contract extension that could reach up to $265 million. Out of that, a whopping $181 million is guaranteed throughout the duration, with $165.5 million guaranteed in the first three years alone.

Tom Pelissero from NFL Network was among the first to break the news about this lucrative deal.

This contract places Purdy among the elite quarterbacks in the NFL. In terms of total value, he currently ranks fifth, trailing only Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Trevor Lawrence, and Joe Burrow. Mahomes leads the pack with a 10-year deal worth $450 million, while Allen’s recent contract totals $330 million, and both Lawrence and Burrow sit at $275 million.

This data gives a clearer picture of where Purdy stands in the quarterback hierarchy.

In terms of annual average earnings, Purdy’s contract puts him on par with Jared Goff at $53 million, making him the seventh-highest paid quarterback this year. Here, he’s behind others like Dak Prescott, Jordan Love, Burrow, Lawrence, Allen, and Tua Tagovailoa.

Interestingly, this means he’s ahead of notable names like Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts in that specific ranking.

Such is the landscape of quarterback contracts these days, where new standards are continually set. And with Purdy’s impressive deal, it raises the question: who’s next in line for a big extension? CJ Stroud might be feeling pretty optimistic at the moment, but he’ll have to wait until next offseason for his chance at a new contract.
