Wild new details are emerging about the arrest of Broncos linebacker coach Michael Wilhoyt.
According to court documents, Wilhoit is accused of hitting a police officer with a left hook. Retrieved by the Denver Post.
The 38-year-old, who finished his second season with the Broncos, faces felony assault charges.
According to the officer's court affidavit, Wilhoit occurred around 2pm on Sunday after abandoning the 2021 Ford Bronco outside the arrival terminal.
The action prompted the officer to tell the coach that he could not leave the track that way.
After the officers repeated the requests, the coach responded in the same way.
That's when it was said that things had escalated physically.
According to the affidavit, Wilhoyt thrusts his chest against his chest “in an offensive way” and urges officers to push the coach back.
The officer pushed Willhoyt back, and the coach then punched the officer in his face.
The office fell to the ground and Willhotty returned to his car.
According to the affidavit, when Willhoit opened the door, officers fired his taser and hit the coach with his left hip and left hip and side.
The effect of Taser only lasted a few seconds before Willhort was able to run on the Bronco, officers said.
The officer left a “visible injury” in his knee and moderate jaw pain.
The Willhoit Bond was set at $5,000 after appearing in court Monday, according to the Denver Post.
The judge who presided over the hearing was worried that the exchange escalated to alleged attacks on police officers, saying “thousands of people had achieved success at the airport.”
“It's a concern for the courts that everyday encounters have become violent,” Magistrate Ernie Beckman said.
“We know the situation that occurred on Sunday and is involved in the process of gathering more information,” the Broncos said in a statement on 9 News.
Wilhoit played six NFL seasons from 2012-17. This includes five and five NFL seasons after being signed as an undrafted free agent outside Division II Washburn.
His final season was the “Boom Legion” Seahawks. Wilhoyt began 45 games during his career before starting coaching with the Saints in 2019.
