Broncos Fire Assistant Mike Wilhoite After Arrest for Punching Police Officer

The Denver Broncos fired defensive aide Mike Wilhoyt 10 days after being arrested for punching police officers at Denver International Airport.

“After a thorough discussion as an organization, I met with Michael Wilhoyt and informed him. we have I've decided To say goodbyesaid Broncos coach Shaun Payton via 9News' Mike Klis. “We recognize the serious nature of the allegations against him and believe this is the best course of action at this time.

“I am grateful for Michael's contribution to the Broncos and I am confident he will move forward in a positive direction.”

Willhoyt left the vehicle abandoned in the DIA's arrival area last month. After returning to the car, officers approach him and inform the Broncos assistant that he was not allowed to leave the unmanned car. Wilhoit responded by telling the officers to “close f*ck.” The officer repeated the warning, and Wilhoyt repeatedly insulted as he held the enforcer in his chest.

The officer thrusts Willhoyt in and receives a punch in the face in response. According to Klis, officers may have suffered both knees, pain and jaw pain, causing injury to his left wrist.

The officer stood up and fired a Taser with Willhoite as he went back into his car to escape the scene. The former 49er and the current former coach were arrested after a while.

Wilhoyt faces accusations of second-degree attacks on police officers, obstructing peace officers and criminal mischief. He has coached Denver's external linebacker group since 2023.
