Stidham Leads Broncos to Super Bowl with Mixed Performance
Denver Broncos quarterback Jarrett Stidham, who helped secure his team’s first Super Bowl appearance by defeating the New England Patriots, displayed resilience in the face of adversity.
Despite fumbling on his initial drive, Stidham bounced back on the next one. He spotted wide receiver Marvin Mims making a leap over Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez. That moment? Well, it kind of set the tone for the challenge ahead.
Stidham connected with Mims for a notable 52-yard gain, taking the Broncos into the red zone. Shortly after, he threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton, giving Denver an early edge in the game.
Fans online were buzzing with excitement following the play, but the positive vibes didn’t last long. Just before halftime, Stidham made a crucial error. With less than three minutes on the clock, he attempted to release the ball quickly to avoid a sack; unfortunately, it was ruled a backward pass.
This error allowed the Patriots to regain possession, leading to Drake Maye scoring a touchdown from 6 yards out, tying the game at 7-7 with just over two minutes before the half.
Stidham managed to drive the Broncos down the field again, but Will Lutz’s attempt at a field goal hit the mark with just 20 seconds left, which was unfortunately a miss.
By the end of the half, the score remained tied. Stidham’s stats included completing 12 of 21 passes for 123 yards, along with one touchdown pass and three sacks.
This match marked his first start of the season and his first playoff game starting, after transitioning from being a fourth-round pick of the Patriots back in 2019. He began his career backing up Tom Brady and later moved to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before signing with the Broncos in 2023.
