Potential Move for Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP, signed a one-year deal with the Steelers during the previous offseason. At 42, he hasn’t completely ruled out a return in 2026, but the team seems to be in a wait-and-see mode regarding his future.
The NFL’s new league year kicked off last week, and with the draft approaching, it’s clear the Steelers are gearing up for change. There are indications that another team may be looking to acquire the seasoned quarterback.
According to Pro Football Talk, the Denver Broncos are contemplating a move for Rodgers. Should he join Denver, he’d enter a quarterback room that has been led by Bo Nix for the last two seasons.
Sean Payton, the Broncos’ head coach, might be eyeing the experienced quarterback to help elevate Denver’s chances of reaching the NFL’s pinnacle. The report mentions that while no coach has ever won a Super Bowl with two different teams, Payton may find the risk worth taking to improve the Broncos’ chances next season.
Rodgers has become a point of interest for the Broncos, especially as they attempt to build on their performance from last season. Payton understands the weight of this opportunity and might see it as a chance to make history.
Bo Nix suffered an ankle injury during the AFC Divisional Playoff against the Buffalo Bills. Jarrett Stidham stepped in during the AFC Championship, but the Broncos fell short against the New England Patriots. Nix’s recovery timeline is uncertain, but indications are that he could be ready for training camp. However, bringing in a veteran like Rodgers could provide additional security and options for the team.
As of Wednesday, Rodgers had not officially visited the Broncos this offseason. He had a solid season last year, starting 16 games and throwing 24 touchdowns, helping the Steelers end a five-year drought of AFC North titles. Nonetheless, the Steelers were unable to advance past the wild card round against the Houston Texans.
Looking ahead, former Ohio State standout Will Howard and NFL veteran Mason Rudolph will remain in the Steelers’ quarterback lineup for 2026.
