Jarrett Stidham Set for First Playoff Start

Jarrett Stidham is gearing up for his inaugural playoff start next weekend, as the Denver Broncos aim for the AFC Championship and a chance to compete in Super Bowl LX.

Stidham’s elevation to the starting position came swiftly after the team’s victory over the Buffalo Bills on Saturday night. The news broke that Bo Nix had sustained a fractured ankle, sidelining him for the remainder of the playoffs.

Stidham, who once seemed poised to fill the shoes of Tom Brady with the New England Patriots, has garnered significant support from Broncos head coach Sean Payton. When asked about Stidham’s readiness for this pivotal moment, Payton referenced their previous assessments of him during his time in New Orleans, stating, “He was a target of ours in the draft. That doesn’t really mean anything other than we liked this guy coming out.” He went on to mention Stidham’s coaching background in New England, adding that they have observed him closely over the past three years.

“He’s ready and he’s going to be ready for that moment,” Payton asserted, drawing comparisons to other quarterbacks who stepped up in challenging situations, like Nick Foles with the Eagles and Jeff Hostetler with the Giants.

Payton emphasized that Stidham’s approach will differ from Nix’s, and that the game plan will be tailored to fit Stidham’s unique skill set. If he succeeds in leading Denver to victory, Stidham could potentially make playoff history, joining the ranks of quarterbacks who have pulled off dramatic wins, such as Frank Reich’s memorable comeback against the Houston Oilers.

In terms of performance, Stidham has recorded 1,422 passing yards and eight touchdowns across 20 regular-season games.
