Brooke Shields' second daughter, Greer, recalled that she first learned about her mother's sexual assault when she watched the actress' documentary “Pretty Baby,” which was released in 2023.
The two-part series took a comprehensive look at Shields' career, detailing the intense media scrutiny and sexual objectification she faced as the lead actress in controversial films “Pretty Baby” and “The Blue Lagoon.”
In “Pretty Baby,” which will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in February 2023, Shields, 59, reveals for the first time that she was raped by an anonymous industry insider when she was in her 20s.
Greer was recently photographed with her mother and sister, Rowan, 21. People magazine interview, In it, she recalled the shock she felt when the truth came to light.
“I was learning things at the same time the world was learning, but I took it so much more deeply and personally,” Greer said. “I just never got over it.”

Shields, who has two daughters with her husband Chris Hencey, explained that Rowan knew about the assault but Greer did not.

“I didn't teach her anything,” the model admitted. “It was a misunderstanding. I explained that it was an exploration of the sexualization of women in my industry, but I naively thought that because we have such strong, healthy, normal lives and I'm not completely broken, she'd say, 'Wow, you've been through a lot, but look where we are now.'”
The two-time Golden Globe nominee said her daughter's reaction made her regret not discussing her experience with Grier beforehand.

“I told her, 'But it has a happy ending,' and she said, 'I can never allow myself to think that anything bad happened to you,'” Shields recalled.
“In the end, she missed out on the happy parts,” the actress continued. “She felt helpless. As mothers, we make mistakes and we make assumptions sometimes.”

“It's a strange situation to be in, watching a documentary and seeing your parents as public figures voicing other people's opinions,” Shields acknowledged.
“Part of being a mother is learning from your children,” she says. “I've learned a lot by listening to them.”

“Pretty Baby” was released on Hulu in April 2023. In a March 2023 interview with People magazine, Shields came forward to say she was sexually assaulted and explained why she felt ready to talk about her experience more than 30 years later.

“It's taken me this long to figure it out… I was never ready before. I had to figure it out in my own way, on my own terms,” Shields said.
“Everyone processes their trauma on a different timeline… It just felt like the right time.”
