Brooke Shields lived in ‘agony’ over late mother’s alcoholism

Shields' mother had been her manager since she was 11 months old. Shields felt “steady” on set, but at home she didn't know what to expect from her mother.

“I wanted to protect my children from living with feelings of instability, uncertainty, and fear, so I built in as many routines and rituals as possible,” she wrote in her memoir. Shields' relationship with her mother and career were explored in the documentary “Pretty Baby,” which premiered in 2023.

The film mainly focused on the controversies that arose during her acting and modeling days in her youth.

In 1981, Shields lost a lawsuit against photographer Garry Gross. He photographed nude SEALs when he was 10 years old and later sold the photos.
