Brooks Koepka is a unique figure in professional golf.
This bold personality from the PGA Tour to Smash GC’s LIV Golf Captain is loved and revered by many, but there are others who hate him.
No matter how you feel about him, you should appreciate his candor.
Koepka recently joined Golf.com’s Claire Rogers on Talk about golf and life In her corner “The Scoop”. Rogers and his guests grab their favorite ice creams, sit and chat. It’s relaxed and there’s minimal pressure.
One of her questions showed how much respect the current PGA Championship winner has for her fellow professionals. She asked Koepka if she had to play golf with just one player for the rest of her life, who would it be?
Rory McIlroy’s answer was great. But his reasoning was really fascinating.
“Most people probably don’t like this answer, but Rory does,” Koepka said. “I feel like I’m probably giving away a lot. There’s competition. Maybe he’s, I don’t know, but he’s got to get another one. [major] than him. He’s almost five years old, but it’s like a year older…I want to try to be better than him, because I think he’s definitely one of the best players of all time. , it’s aiming one up — that’s the way it feels anyway. ”
Koepka is one of the most competitive players in the sport and recognizes that players are judged by the major championships they win.
“When you go into a major tournament, you think, ‘Okay, I want to try to get a big enough lead before he starts closing the gap,'” Koepka said. “So, for me, that’s the way it is.”
McIlroy has won four major titles, and Koepka won the PGA Championship at Oak Hill last year to surpass him for his fifth title. Both players’ drive to be the best is why the former Florida State University Seminole likely chose the Northern Irishman.
He went on to detail his favorite major wins, his relationship with his caddy, and becoming a father for the first time. For golf fans, it’s great to see Koepka’s intense play on the course.
Fans first got to know his character in the first season of Netflix’s Full Swing, but we get to see a lot more than that in this video.
Rogers is one of the most iconic Twitter users. She makes the Golf-Twittersphere laugh every week and stands out for her different approach to covering the game. “The Scoop” segments are relaxing and fun for all fans.
Koepka is the latest of her A-list guests, with previous guests for Rodgers including Rose Chan, Nelly Korda, J.R. Smith and Koepka’s wife, Jenna Sims.
