Brother hacked up pregnant sister in anger that she was ‘no longer innocent’: affidavit

A Minnesota man was arrested after dumping his sister’s body parts on a neighbor’s doorstep because he was upset that his pregnant sister was “no longer innocent,” authorities said.

Jack Joseph Ball, 23, of Farmington, was indicted on two counts of murder Tuesday for the killings of his sister, Bethany Israel, 30, and her unborn baby, who was about 18 weeks pregnant, Dakota County Prosecutor Katherine Keenan said.

He was arrested last Thursday in a neighbor’s yard after he was spotted on a Ring camera dumping the dismembered body on the front steps and around the yard, according to the criminal complaint.

Ball had slit his own throat and was “stained with blood on his head, shirt, arms, legs and pants,” according to the documents, which also state that a bloody saw, a hatchet and a knife were found in the home.

According to the lawsuit, investigators also found “several diaries,” in which she wrote that her sister “was ‘angry’ about being pregnant and ‘no longer innocent.'”

“The allegations in this case are extremely disturbing and frightening. Words cannot describe what our law enforcement partners encountered during this investigation,” Keena said.

According to the affidavit, the siblings had been eating dinner before their mother, worried that Israel had not returned home, raised the alarm.

The mother went to Ball’s home, where Ball “ran out of there,” the affidavit states.

Inside the home, police found a large pool of blood in the kitchen, as well as “a bloody saw, an axe and a large bloody knife” that they believed were used to dismember Israel.

Authorities said they were only able to track down the killer after a neighbor called 911 to report someone had dumped body parts on their front steps.

Authorities say Ball slit his own throat but survived.

He made his initial court appearance on Tuesday, and bail was set at $2 million without conditions and $1 million with conditions.

If medically cleared, he will be transported to the Dakota County Jail to await his next hearing on June 10.

A GoFundMe page was set up following Israel’s death to support her husband, Jack, and her family, and as of Wednesday afternoon had raised more than $28,000.

“Bethany’s brilliant spirit and unwavering kindness touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her,” the fundraising page states. “Her love of life, her love of family and the friendships she fostered are the legacy she leaves behind.”
