Details Emerge in Brutal Murder Case
Jeremiah, who shares a father with DeCarlos Brown Jr., the 34-year-old accused of murdering 23-year-old Irina Zaltoska, expressed his belief that the brutal act was a “stolen” situation. Brown Jr. was arrested last month in North Carolina, already having a criminal history, and had previously been detained earlier this year for allegedly misusing the 911 system. However, he was released fairly quickly, as indicated by court records.
He shared his thoughts with a publication, saying, “I think the system could have prevented this.” He seems to feel strongly that had things been different, perhaps the tragedy could have been averted.
Charges and Background
A report detailing the allegations noted that when officers responded to the scene, Brown Jr. requested they look into what he called “artificial” materials inside his body, though the officers advised him it was a medical concern rather than a criminal matter. His mother revealed that he has been diagnosed with schizophrenia. There’s certainly a sense of concern surrounding his mental health; Jeremiah mentioned, “I had no idea he had any issues… people with such problems shouldn’t be out on the streets without supervision.”
While acknowledging the need for mental health support, he insisted that there must be accountability for Brown Jr.’s actions, adding, “He could do it again. They need to treat him, yes, but there are consequences.” It seems like he believes that, while mental illness is a serious matter, it shouldn’t excuse behavior that leads to harm.
A Victim’s Story
Irina Zaltoska, the Ukrainian refugee caught in this tragedy, had moved to the United States to escape the war back home. She relocated with her family in August 2022, looking for safety and a fresh start.
Jeremiah, who has only met Brown Jr. briefly, noted, “He was always by my father’s side… he has a history with the law.” His hopes, it appears, are towards ensuring that victims like Zaltoska receive the support they need in their journey, much like anyone would wish for.
