Cleveland Browns Make Major Trade, Sending Myles Garrett to Los Angeles Rams
This week, the Cleveland Browns made headlines in the NFL by trading Myles Garrett, the league’s Defensive Player of the Year and someone known for holding the single-season sack record.
For the first time since 2016, the Browns will have to adjust to life without Garrett, sending him to the Los Angeles Rams in a trade that enhances an already impressive Rams roster.
Interestingly, Garrett had requested a trade last year, but the Browns responded by offering him a four-year extension worth $160 million, which ensures he remains in Cleveland through his 14th season in 2030.
Yet, according to Browns general manager Andrew Berry, the compensation received, including Defensive Rookie of the Year Jared Barth, a first-round pick in 2027, a second-round pick in 2028, and a third-round pick in 2029, was simply too enticing to ignore.
Berry remarked, “Myles Garrett is not just a foundational player; he’s a Hall of Fame talent who’s been with us for a decade. Our goal was always for him to finish his career in a Browns helmet.”
In reflecting on the decision to trade Garrett, Berry mentioned, “Sometimes you face unexpected opportunities, and you have to reassess if this is truly advantageous for the team. In this case, the offer was just too great.” Last season, Garrett impressed with 23 sacks and earned his second Defensive Player of the Year award, consistently achieving double-digit sacks for the past eight seasons, including five years with no less than 14 sacks.
On another note, the Rams recently extended quarterback Matthew Stafford’s contract, providing themselves a little more flexibility after selecting Alabama’s quarterback Ty Simpson with the 13th overall pick in the latest draft.
The Browns, meanwhile, added tackle Spencer Fano and wide receiver KC Concepcion during the previous NFL Draft and have two first-round picks for the upcoming year.
