Browns Not Seeking Trade for Young Quarterbacks

The Cleveland Browns have decided not to trade their young quarterbacks, Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel, as confirmed by team insiders.

This decision might come as a surprise to some Browns fans, especially considering that numerous teams are on the lookout for quarterback assistance due to injuries to their starters.

Teams like the Giants, Commanders, and Bears are in this situation; notably, Chicago is set to have 38-year-old Case Keenum starting against the Eagles on Monday night.

Despite the increasing demand for quarterbacks, Cleveland intends to hold onto both of its mid-round picks for the 2025 NFL draft.

Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot stated, “The Browns have no plans to trade away their No. 2 and No. 3 quarterbacks now or before the trade deadline on November 10.”

Speculation on social media has linked Sanders with a potential move to the Giants, particularly since the Ravens reportedly showed interest in him during last year’s draft when current Giants head coach John Harbaugh was in Baltimore.

The conversation picked up after Deshaun Watson won the starting position over Sanders, and following Jaxson Dart’s season-ending injury, making a trade to New York seem more likely.

For the moment, Cleveland is satisfied with keeping Sanders as the backup, who could potentially start later this season. He recently completed a strong rookie season, throwing for 1,400 yards and seven touchdowns.

Gabriel, a third-round draft choice and the current third-string quarterback, is on injured reserve due to a back injury, and he’s expected to miss a couple more games. The Browns did not receive any trade offers for Gabriel before their roster was finalized on August 30.

The team still has sixth-round rookie Taylen Green as their fourth-string quarterback. Standing at 6-foot-6, Green’s dual-threat abilities might attract interest from other general managers, although he has been inactive this season.

Cleveland’s quarterback situation has been rather unstable for the last three seasons, with the team starting five quarterbacks in 2023, four in 2024, and three in 2025.

Given Watson’s ongoing health concerns, it seems that Cleveland is focused on maintaining depth in their quarterback lineup.
