Shedeur Sanders Remains with the Browns

Shedeur Sanders is not going anywhere from Cleveland anytime soon.

The backup quarterback for the Browns, who recently took the step of hiring an agent for the first time, is reportedly not on the trading block, according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

Deshaun Watson has been the starting quarterback all season, and surprisingly, he has found success after struggling significantly in recent years.

With Watson performing well, leading the Browns to a 5-2 record, Sanders seems to be firmly planted as the backup. He was initially expected to contribute more this season after a competitive training camp, but things haven’t turned out that way.

Sanders was once projected to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft but ended up going in the sixth round. Some have suggested that his choice to go through the entire process without an agent might have contributed to his draft day slip.

Earlier this month, Sanders hired an agent, a move that many speculated was aimed at facilitating a trade to a different team.

The recent report indicating that the Browns have no intention of trading the former Colorado star is somewhat unexpected, given that he may not see much playing time this season unless Watson is injured.

Cleveland seems committed to developing Sanders for the future, especially considering Watson is nearing the final year of his contract.

During his rookie season, Sanders did show promise, throwing for 1,400 yards, with seven touchdowns and ten interceptions over eight games after stepping in for an injured Dillon Gabriel.

If Watson continues to lead the team to victories and possibly a playoff run, there’s a chance he might secure a contract extension with the Browns—despite the tumultuous nature of his current deal since joining the team.

As Watson approaches his eighth game this season, it marks a notable milestone given that he has faced injuries in each of the prior four seasons.
