Cleveland Browns Linebacker Jordan Hicks Retires

Jordan Hicks, a linebacker for the Cleveland Browns, has officially announced his retirement at the age of 33. His decision came through an Instagram post after he missed the first two days of training camp due to what the team referred to as a personal issue.

“Soccer has given me more than I ever imagined,” Hicks shared in his message. “It created a platform that influences purpose, discipline, brotherhood, and many others. Most importantly, I showed people outside the game.” He expressed profound gratitude for the experiences he’s gained, calling attention to every lesson, challenge, and victory throughout his career. “While I am proud of my achievements on the field, I take even greater pride in my contributions beyond it.”

Hicks thanked his teammates, coaches, fans, and especially his family for their unwavering support during his journey, expressing excitement about what the future holds.

Just last month, Hicks participated in the Browns’ OTA offseason workout and was expected to have an important role in his second season with the team. Last year, he recorded 78 tackles and two sacks across 12 starts.

His wife, Ivana Hicks, honored him for his integrity and perseverance during his decade in the league. She reflected on their journey together, stating, “Today, I stand by your side during this retirement moment, and my heart is full. You haven’t just played the game, you’ve lived it with honesty, humility, and unwavering character.” She emphasized the impact he has made, noting that his legacy extends beyond statistics.

The couple has three children—daughter Taliya and two sons, Aven and Luka. Ivana took to Instagram earlier this week to commemorate her husband’s journey, writing about the sacrifices, passion, and love that have defined their time together. “We will count down the days and cheer you on until we are together again,” she wrote.

She also shared the emotional challenges of their lifestyle, revealing how their children adapt to the constant changes, moving to new schools and making new friends. “It’s the only life they know, and sometimes, because of that sense of normality, it’s best for us to be apart for a while,” Ivana reflected.

In total, Hicks played four seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles after being drafted in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft, along with time spent with the Arizona Cardinals and the Minnesota Vikings. Over his career, he amassed a total of 952 tackles, 16.5 sacks, 13 interceptions, six forced fumbles, and 11 fumble recoveries.
