The Cleveland Browns revealed on Tuesday the jersey numbers for their rookie class and free-agent signings. Notably, Shedeur Sanders, who previously wore number 2 at Colorado, will don number 12 with the Browns instead. This change comes after the team signed wide receiver DeAndre Carter, who will be using number 2 this season.
Sanders was picked at the 144th overall spot in the fifth round, marking a significant moment after an unexpected dip during the draft.
On the other hand, the Browns’ first-round pick, Mason Graham, has the jersey number 94, while another rookie quarterback, Dillon Gabriel, will wear number 5. The team has indicated that these numbers might change ahead of the start of the 2025 season.
As for Shedeur, it’s uncertain if he will stick with number 12 throughout the season, but that’s the number with which he’ll kick off his career. He’s one of five quarterbacks on the roster, and the starting position is still up in the air. Deshaun Watson, recovering from surgery on an Achilles tendon injury, adds to the ambiguity surrounding the quarterback situation.
The Browns had also acquired Kenny Pickett from the Eagles and signed Joe Fraco to a one-year deal before the draft. With the new additions of Gabriel and Sanders, it’s tough to predict who might take the lead in the first week.
