Bruce Springsteen Debuts New Biopic at Telluride Film Festival

Bruce Springsteen made a surprising appearance at the 2025 Telluride Film Festival over the weekend, kicking off the screening of his new biopic titled “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Anywhere.” This film explores the reasons behind his decision to finally greenlight such a project after nearly five decades in the spotlight.

Directed by Scott Cooper and featuring Jeremy Allen White in the lead role, the film premiered at the Colorado festival on August 29th.

Springsteen, 75, shared some insights about the film, stating, “What brought this to me was that I think we had a very specific idea. Scott had a very specific idea, especially regarding what we were trying to do.”

He quickly pointed out that “Save Me Out of Nowhere” isn’t your typical biopic. “And because there’s no better word, it was anti-biology,” he said. “You know, it’s not really a biopic. I’m 31 and 32 years from my life and I really see them when I made this particular record.”

The film, which chronicles Springsteen’s life during the time he created his 1982 album “Nebraska,” has been well-received, currently holding a perfect 100% rating. “I’ll deliver me from anywhere,” he quipped, indicating it would be available in theaters starting October 24th.

Originally announced in March 2024, the casting of White was confirmed in October. Jeremy Strong also stars as Springsteen’s long-time manager, John Landau.

White, 34, opened up about the immense challenge of portraying the iconic musician, admitting, “I remember when Scott and I were discussing this, I thought, ‘I don’t know how to sing or play the guitar.'” He expressed his initial doubts yet noted Cooper’s unwavering confidence in him.

“We had five or six months to prepare, and we had an incredible team that helped us get there,” White explained. “It was a breakthrough for me when I recorded a large portion of RCA’s Nashville album, ‘Nebraska.’” He mentioned gaining confidence throughout those sessions.

Meanwhile, Cooper praised White for his vulnerability and credibility, which he believed were essential in capturing the essence of Springsteen. “Jeremy has two things that really make up Bruce Springsteen for me: humility and passion,” Cooper noted at the festival. Springsteen, ever the jokester, chimed in, “It’s half the right.”

During a panel discussion, White recounted an experience that left a mark on him. He received Springsteen’s endorsement while they were recording, reminiscing, “I didn’t know if the blues were still playing this song or not.” He shared how, after performing, Springsteen remarked, “You sound like me.”

Following its debut at the Telluride Film Festival, “Delivery Me From Nowhere” is set to screen at the 2025 New York Film Festival on September 28th. The supporting cast includes Paul Walter Hauser, Stephen Graham, Odessa Young, Gabby Hoffmann, and Mark Maron.
