Bruce Springsteen Shares Live Recording of His U.K. Concert Where He Calls Trump ‘Treasonous’

Bruce Springsteen Releases New EP

Bruce Springsteen has unveiled a new EP titled A Land of Hope and Dreams, featuring a live recording from a recent concert in Manchester, England. This performance includes passionate critiques aimed at President Donald Trump made earlier this month.

It captures sentiments commonly expressed by long-time Democratic supporters regarding Trump’s “corrupted, incompetent, and offensive administration.”

In his introduction, Springsteen mentions that the E Street Band is tapping into the power of rock “in dangerous times.” He reflects on the America he cherishes, stating, “In my home, in America I love, America I wrote about, for 250 years, has been a beacon of hope and freedom, and is now in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent, rebellious regime.”

He continues, urging those who believe in democracy and the best qualities of the American experience to unite: “Tonight we ask all who believe in democracy and the best of our American experience to stand up with us, raise your voice to anti-authoritarianism and make freedom ring.”

The EP features tracks like Wrecking Ball, which Springsteen introduces solo at the piano before moving into Rising. He expresses concern about the current state of America, commenting:

“Now there’s a very strange, weird and dangerous situation. In America, people are misusing their right to free speech while persecuting others for dissent. This is happening now. The wealthiest are abandoning the poorest children to illness and death. This is real.”

He adds, “In my country, there is a sadistic joy in the pain inflicted on loyal American workers. Civil rights laws are being eroded, and we are sidelining our allies while siding with dictators against those who seek freedom.”

These critiques are clearly directed at Trump and his administration, and they seem tailored to resonate with his British audience.

The release of the EP follows a contentious tour by the veteran rocker, known for his vocal discontent with Trump and the Republican Party. Springsteen has been open about his disdain for Trump’s candidacy since 2016, calling it an “attack on the entire democratic process” and maintaining that Trump lacks “any sense of decency.”

In 2017, he labeled Trump a “conman,” expressing similar frustrations through his protest songs. Over the past two years, this criticism has only intensified.
