Springsteen Offers Thanks After Threat at White House Dinner

In a recent performance at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, Bruce Springsteen, despite participating in an anti-Trump protest, expressed gratitude that President Donald Trump was unharmed during a shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner over the weekend.

“We begin tonight with a prayer for our men and women in service overseas, we pray for their safe return,” Springsteen remarked. He further extended a “prayer of thanks” acknowledging that neither the president nor any attendees were injured in the incident. “We can disagree and criticize those in power, but there is no place for political violence in our beloved United States,” he stated.

On Saturday, during the gala, a 31-year-old suspect, Cole Thomas Allen, managed to breach security and fired upon a Secret Service officer before being subdued and arrested. This marked the third assassination attempt against President Trump.

Springsteen has been a vocal critic of Trump, releasing protest songs such as “Streets of Minneapolis” in January, which criticized ICE’s Operation Metro Surge. He previously performed at the “No Kings” rally, where he similarly condemned Trump’s policies.

Describing the Trump administration in stark terms, Springsteen has labeled it as “corrupt” and “reckless,” urging audiences to prioritize truth and democracy over fear and authoritarianism.

Earlier this month, Trump, who had displayed his disdain for Springsteen long before his presidency, called for a boycott of the musician’s concerts, labeling them “overpriced” and “boring.” Trump has criticized Springsteen’s appearance and alleged his comments stem from a fixation on the president.

“Bruce Springsteen looks like a dried up prune… and has long had a horrible case of Trump Derangement Syndrome,” Trump wrote in an online post.
