Emma Heming Willis, wife of Bruce Willis, shared a heartfelt message to her husband on Father’s Day.
Emma, who is the mother of their daughters Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11, has been candid about her journey as a caregiver for Bruce since his dementia diagnosis earlier this year.
She aims to advocate for caregivers and raise awareness about brain health, further expressing her sentiments in a recent Instagram post.
Accompanying a photo of Bruce with one of their daughters, she wrote, “A happy Father’s Day will manifest in ways that can be appreciated by the children who have come for him.”
She elaborated, “What Bruce teaches our girls transcends words. Resilience, unconditional love, and the quiet strength of simply being.” She added that love endures and adapts, even as circumstances change.
Emma also noted that “symbolic days” like Father’s Day can be quite challenging, admitting, “I’m feeling pretty sad today. I hope, with all my being, that things can be lighter for him and our family.”
Reflecting on the community that has formed around those affected by Bruce’s frontotemporal dementia, she mentioned the saying “it is what it is.”
She expressed that while such a phrase may seem negative, it can also be liberating.
Emma wrapped up her post by encouraging her followers to take care of themselves and shared nostalgic pictures of Bruce with their daughters.
One photo showed him sitting with Mabel and Evelyn at a museum, and she humorously remarked, “I miss those days, even the ugg boot phase.” She expressed a longing to relive those moments.
Bruce, who has a daughter named Scout from his previous marriage to Demi Moore, was diagnosed with aphasia, a language disorder, in 2022, leading to his retirement from acting.
Subsequently, his family revealed that his condition had progressed to frontotemporal dementia.
This fall, Emma plans to publish a book that details her experiences and what she has learned throughout this unexpected journey.
At a recent forum in Las Vegas, she reflected on the day Bruce received his diagnosis, recalling how they left the doctor’s office with little guidance. She shared her struggles to keep her family together while caring for Bruce, expressing feelings of being lost and scared during this time.
Emma emphasized the need for support and information in such moments. “This book serves as a roadmap that I wish I had received the day in 2022,” she stated, aimed at other caregivers searching for answers and support.
