Call it Big Dad Energy.
Bruins defenseman Brandon Carlo welcomed his son Crews into the world Monday morning, jetting off to Florida just in time for Boston’s 5-1 series opener against the Panthers. He helped score a big goal.
Boston head coach Jim Montgomery wasn’t sure if Carlo would be ready for the series-opening game after the team skated in the morning at Amerant Bank Arena.
Video posted by the Bruins on social media showed the moment Carlo arrived at the arena in a black Chevrolet.
Carlo entered the building wearing sunglasses and a white shirt and was immediately greeted by his teammates, who congratulated him with applause and hugs.
Later in the clip, one of the Bruins’ equipment managers comes up to Carlo and says, “Crew dad, how are you doing?”
His biggest moment came near the end of the second period, when the Bruins were already leading 2-1.
After the Bruins got the puck down in the offensive zone, Charlie Coyle curled along the half boards and found a streaming Carlo to take a shot from the slot.
The explosion passed through Panthers starter Sergei Bobrovsky, who hit a screen in front of the net.
This goal was Carlo’s second in the playoffs.
The Crew comes less than 48 hours after the Bruins defeated the Maple Leafs in Game 7 over the weekend to advance to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The newborn is the second child for Brandon and Mason Carlo, who also have a daughter, Wren, born in September 2021.
Carlo played in 554 regular season games and 66 playoff games during his eight years in the NHL, scoring three goals and 12 points.
