A 19-year-old merry-go-round employee, who gave only his initials KM, estimated that the merry-go-round, located just a few steps away from where Friday's fire started, lost thousands of dollars by having to close on the day of the fire. .

“We had to close for the day,” KM said. “I was at work that day, and before I left, I got a message from my boss. I was like, 'Hey, there's a fire. So I can't come to work today.'”

Trinity Thompson, who works at a stall at nearby Babka Bailout, said the fire was extinguished “really quickly”.

Most stallholders told the Post that their businesses were not affected by the fire, but while unaffected stalls were able to open late Friday, carousel workers received no holiday pay. Mr. KM reported that he has not been paid.

“I'm not really worried about the merry-go-round making money, but… I didn't get paid because I didn't show up that day,” KM said.

“It was kind of disappointing, but, you know, that's not going to happen,” he said. “But it still sucks, especially during the holidays – [not] I was able to help my family with the extra cash. ”
