Bryce Harper discusses the Phillies' prospects following the 2026 playoff disappointment

Bryce Harper Anticipates Changes in Philadelphia Following October Disappointment

Bryce Harper is looking forward to changes in Philadelphia, as the team faces the disappointment of another unsuccessful postseason.

Having not won a playoff series for three consecutive years, the Phillies had a challenging run after making it to a seven-game NLCS against the Diamondbacks in 2023.

However, Harper believes next season will bring fresh developments after yet another early exit this fall.

“Every year is different than the last. I don’t really dwell on what happened before,” Harper expressed following the loss to the Braves. “This was a new team, although we still had our core players.”

“I think this team will look quite different next year with some guys moving on from this clubhouse. So, we’ll have to wait and see.”

Since 2023, the Phillies faced NLDS eliminations in 2024 and 2025, culminating in a recent defeat to the Braves in the wild-card round.

In 2026, the Phillies managed an 88-74 record and needed a win in their final game of the regular season to secure a fifth consecutive playoff appearance.

Prior to this season, they had achieved at least 90 wins in each of the three previous regular seasons.

Harper, a two-time MVP and nine-time All-Star, remains with the team through 2031, and he will celebrate his 34th birthday in just two weeks.

“The goal is to win games, and we fell short,” Harper commented after their 6-2 defeat in Game 3 during the playoffs.

He wasn’t alone in his reflections.

Pitcher Aaron Nola, who has been with the Phillies since 2015, also noted the team’s struggles this season, focusing on how things didn’t align as they should have.

“We want to win a World Series with this group. We’ve been together for a while, and there are strong characters on this team,” Nola said. “We understand each other and recognize the potential we have.”

“We just need to play well at the right moments.”

Don Mattingly, the interim manager, also addressed the team’s recent performance and contributing factors to their loss.

“It would have been great to have our pitching lined up and properly rested,” Mattingly noted, reflecting on his brief tenure with the team. “But that wasn’t our reality.”

“We had to fight our way in, and to make that happen, we had to push hard in every game throughout the series.”
