Philadelphia’s Latest Injury Update
The Phillies have placed Bryce Harper on the 10-day injured list due to a right wrist injury before their game against the Pirates on Saturday.
This decision follows the Phillies’ close 5-4 loss to Pittsburgh the previous night.
In a related move, the team has called up Otto Kemp, marking him as the 24th player from the Triple-A Lehigh Valley MLB pipeline.
Harper, who plays a crucial role for the team, is expected to be replaced by Alec Bohm.
Harper’s wrist issues aren’t entirely new. He has been experiencing discomfort since being hit on the right elbow by a pitch from Braves pitcher Spencer Strider on May 27. This incident marked a tough period, as he had been dealing with elbow pain before landing on the injured list.
While he pushed through wrist pain last year, the hope is that some additional rest now will help avoid long-term complications.
This season, Harper has a batting average of .258, with nine home runs, 34 RBIs, and eight stolen bases over 57 games. However, the Phillies have struggled, losing seven out of their last eight games, resulting in a lost lead to the Mets in the NL East.
Kemp, who has yet to make his major league debut, hit .317 with 55 RBIs in Triple-A over 57 games, indicating he may bring some potential to the team.
Additionally, the Phillies have recalled pitcher Daniel Robert from Lehigh Valley, while sending Allan Rangel back down. Rangel made his major league debut on Friday, where he allowed two runs in three innings.
This marks Robert’s third appearance with the Phillies this season, as the team looks to regroup in light of these recent challenges.
