Bryson DeChambeau Set to Compete in Ryder Cup

Bryson DeChambeau is gearing up to represent the United States in this year’s Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black. After wrapping up his final round at the Open Championship on Sunday, he had a notable message for Team Europe.

Team USA captain Keegan Bradley received a text suggesting that DeChambeau should definitely be on the roster, even if some top players miss the automatic spots in the Ryder Cup standings. If needed, Bradley would consider DeChambeau as one of his captain’s picks.

Emotional after finishing the Open with a 64, placing him 10th overall at Royal Portrush, DeChambeau described his conversations with Bradley as “easy.” He noted that they had shared some motivating insights during the week but kept some personal reflections to himself. His words were strong, especially considering Europe’s win in Italy in 2023.

DeChambeau emphasized his determination, saying, “This year’s different. We’re tired of losing.” Playing for LIV Golf, he’s in a tricky spot, no longer eligible for Ryder Cup ranking points, currently sitting at fifth on the list.

He trails Justin Thomas, but other stars like Russell Henley and JJ Spaun are just behind him. With the BMW Championship approaching in August, the top six will earn automatic spots on Team USA. Unfortunately for DeChambeau, he’s run out of chances to gather more ranking points.

However, with six captain’s picks available to Bradley, DeChambeau seems to have a solid shot at inclusion. Bradley has expressed that DeChambeau is a crucial asset for the team. He believes not only in DeChambeau’s talent but also in the energy and passion he brings.

Although DeChambeau missed the Ryder Cup in 2023, he was part of teams in 2019 and 2021, the latter being a memorable victory in Wisconsin. As of now, the Ryder Cup Ranking Committee shows Scottie Scheffler leading with 27,770 points, while other notable names are lining up just behind him.

The Ryder Cup is set to unfold on Long Island at the renowned Bethpage Black Course from September 26 to 28.
