Skip Peete, the running backs coach for the Buccaneers, experienced a “medical episode” during a walkthrough practice on Wednesday, prompting him to be taken offsite for further evaluation.
“He was attended to by the team’s medical staff and was responsive, consistent, and stable before being transported for additional medical assessment,” the team’s statement indicated.
Witnesses captured a tense moment during the practice, showing Peete being assisted by paramedics before he was taken to the hospital. “A scary occurrence today at #BUCS,” shared one observer. “RB coach Skip Peete had a medical incident but was alert and energetic as he left.”
This season marks Peete’s third coaching stint with the team. Before this, he held similar roles with the Cowboys, Rams, Bears, and Raiders.
Beyond the NFL, he also has experience in college coaching, having worked with programs at Rutgers, UCLA, Michigan, and Pittsburgh. Interestingly, he is the brother of former NFL quarterback Rodney Peete.
Under Peete’s guidance, the Buccaneers’ running game has shown consistent improvement, helping the team secure consecutive titles in recent seasons.
Interestingly, in 2024, Bucky Irving had a standout year, setting franchise records for rushing yards, and the Buccaneers achieved at least 100 rushing yards in 14 out of 17 games. However, they lost in the wild card round to the Commanders.
As the Buccaneers prepare for their upcoming game against the Seahawks, hopes are high for a rebound from their previous loss, although reports suggest that Irving may be sidelined with injuries.
