Tampa Bay’s promising start took a hit recently.
Star wide receiver Mike Evans is anticipated to be sidelined for three to four weeks due to a left hamstring strain. This news comes after the Buccaneers had a thrilling 29-27 win against the Jets at Raymond James Stadium.
Evans, aged 32, injured his hamstring during the fourth quarter, leaving the field with four catches for 33 yards and a touchdown. He underwent an MRI on Tuesday and expressed some concern, according to reports.
In the first three games of the season, Evans had accumulated 14 receptions and a touchdown, totaling 140 yards. This injury marks a recurring issue for him; he has struggled with hamstring problems throughout his career, missing games in both the 2019 and 2024 seasons due to similar injuries.
While the Buccaneers are aiming for their first 3-0 start since 2005, losing Baker Mayfield’s top target complicates their efforts. Last season, the team did not win any games that Evans missed.
Outside of the impressive rookie Emeka Gubuka, the Buccaneers’ wide receiver squad is noticeably depleted. Pro Bowler Chris Godwin is still recovering from ankle surgery, and Jalen McMillan’s neck injury is expected to keep him out until after their Week 9 bye.
There’s some cautious optimism surrounding Godwin’s potential return during their upcoming game against the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles at home.
