'Buddy Holly' actor Gary Busey receives probation following guilty plea to sexual offense charge

Gary Busey has entered a guilty plea regarding a sexual offense related to an incident at the Monster-Mania Convention on August 13, 2022. The 81-year-old actor admitted to one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact in a court appearance this Thursday. Busey acknowledged that this was not merely a coincidence and has been assessed fines and potential probation of 1 to 5 years.

According to his lawyer, Blair Zwillman, for a guilty plea to be accepted, there must be substantial grounds to confirm the admission of wrongdoing, specifically acknowledging that the encounter was without consent. Zwillman characterized Busey as eager to move forward and content to wrap up this chapter of his life, insisting he’s more of a family man than a criminal. Initially upon the allegations surfacing, Busey had firmly denied any misconduct.

The actor previously recounted that he was in a situation with both a partner and other women, asserting that the interaction lasted “less than 10 seconds” and that the claims of him assaulting anyone were fabricated. He firmly maintains that “nothing happened.” There were even questions raised about his awareness of how his actions could be perceived.

Following the incident, Monster Mania had released a statement committing to cooperating with the authorities as they investigated the allegations raised by attendees against celebrity guests. They acted promptly, indicating support for the complainants, which led to the removal of the guests involved and encouraged filing reports with the police.
