Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway joined the growing list of American companies on Saturday to publicly change its approach to discussing its commitment to diversity and inclusion.
The Berkshire annual report describes the conglomerate's 189 operating operations, explaining how approximately 392,400 people rely on human capital and resources, each of which establishes practices to attract and retain employees. Includes sections.
The company said it accomplished this through employment practices that “were designed to identify qualified candidates and promote diversity and inclusion in the workforce.”
This year's report omitted diversity and inclusion discussions and ended its passage after “candidates.”
Buffett's assistant did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Berkshire has long said that its decentralized structure allows individual operating companies to make daily operational decisions without interfering with the top.
The company has joined dozens of major companies, including Amazon.com, Boeing, Citigroup, Ford, McDonald's, Morgan Stanley and Walmart, with initiatives for diversity, equity, equity and workplace inclusion. I did.
Such initiatives have been attacked by many conservatives, including President Trump, who tried to remove the DEI from the federal government.
At Berkshire's annual meeting last May, shareholders voted with a margin of nearly 4-1, a proposal that would reveal more about Berkshire's efforts to promote DEI in the workplace.
