A 60-year-old was struck in the chest by a stray bullet on Saturday afternoon. Nearby, Excelnia “Momma Zee” Mette, a bodega owner, was also killed by a lost bullet, according to police.
The unnamed victim was reportedly walking near West 131st Avenue and Malcolm X Boulevard when the gunfire erupted. Authorities have indicated that it was during this incident that he was injured.
The injured individual was transported to Harlem Hospital and is currently in stable condition.
This violent event occurred just a day after Mette, along with her 61-year-old grandmother, had been resting. A local resident, Lisa Rodriguez, expressed her disbelief, saying, “We’ve just got this now with Mama Zee.”
Notably, the shooting unfolded on Malcolm X Boulevard, a location where another stray bullet incident claimed the life of a 61-year-old woman last month.
Witnesses noted that the bullet hit the victim at around 1:40 p.m., as she was walking down the street. In a previous shooting incident, a 24-year-old grandson checking on his family was struck near the same area on April 22nd.
Rodriguez lamented the senselessness of the violence, stating, “The people who are shooting aren’t targeting the individuals they want to hit. They are hurting innocent people. That’s a shame.”
