Bunion myths debunked — and why you shouldn’t ignore them

When Karen Huger, who could forget that iconic moment in “The Real Housewives of Potomac” Called Ashleaderby’s bunion?

Yes, she came for her bunion – she came violently for them.

But while they may often be friendly joke butts, according to one New York City podiatrist, the aponeurosis ans is not actually a laughing matter.

Dr. Brad SchaferTLC star “My feet are killing me,“Please note that bunions are not just cosmetic issues. And they’ll get deeper than you think.

“There is a common misconception that the anoinvasion is a simple carouse or bone overgrowth on the side of the toe, but in reality it is a complex deformity derived from an unstable joint that allows the toes of the foot to float out of alignment,” he told the Post.

“This condition is progressive and as it gets worse, the toes will turn and there will be visible bumps on the sides of the foot.”

Here are some other aponeurological myths that this podiatrist wants to arrest.

The aponeurus is a problem with the “old woman”

“There are a lot of myths and misconceptions about bunions, and many of these discourage people from caring for them,” Schafer said. “Many people believe that this is a problem that will develop “old women” as a result of years of wearing high heels and narrow shoes. ”

After all, “Bunion is very common. Almost 25% of adults in the United States develop their condition,” he said.

And although he admits that they are “more commonly seen in older women,” he also deals with tendon guts in men and even teenagers.

The aponeurus is caused by high heels

“There’s a myth that high heels cause bunions,” he said. “They can exacerbate the problem by squeezing their toes together and applying pressure on the big toe joint, but they are not the main cause of the condition.”

The real culprit? Genetics.

“This condition often works in families, and genetics is one of the main causes of aponeurosis,” he said. “Weak mechanical structures such as foot shape and structure can lead to such defects, which are often a family-flowing trait.”

The aponeurus is caused by unpleasant footwear

If you have a bunion, your mother is more likely to be responsible than your Manolos. And wearing sneakers all day won’t save you.

“We see patients in every life with every age, gender and every life course, regardless of footwear choice,” he said.

Bunions are not a big deal

They may not be life-threatening, but they are not neglected, but they can be more than just a footsole.

“The aponeurus is a progressive deformity that may begin as a minor nuisance, but it often causes severe pain and discomfort as it gets worse,” he said.

“Many patients who once enjoyed a very active lifestyle ultimately struggle to simply play the activity as the bunion progresses.”

Bunion only occurs with toes

According to Schaeffer, “The aponeurus on the outside of the foot is called the Taylor aponeurus tendon ban.
Bunionette” – And it’s not so cute as to hear.

“I often see people with a fascia on either side of their feet holding their feet. “I’ve seen people with high arches have Bunionett as the only problem without a bunion, but I usually see them in parallel.”

A bunion requires extensive surgery with a large recovery time

At least initially there are surgical options.

“Podiatricians often recommend that patients try conservative options first,” he said. “These include purchasing wider shoes, padding and braces to accommodate deformities and reduce pain.”

If that doesn’t cut it, surgery might be next, but science has given us a better option than what your grandma had.

“In the past, podiatrists used a procedure called 2D osteotomy where they shaved the protruding bones of the large toes, cut and shifted the bones,” he said. “This removes cosmetic bumps, but does not address unstable joints in the foot that cause the aponeurus.”

Now he likes to perform Fat shaping 3D anoinvas packaging correctionmore modern surgical modifications that address the root of the problem and restore patients faster.

“This surgical approach allows surgeons to return the patient’s arasal structure to their normal 3D alignment,” he said.

Additionally, this procedure has a low recurrence rate, with most patients still in alignment in 13- and 17-month clinical studies.

Buttom Line? Schaeffer said, “I want to encourage embarrassing people who don’t fit that profile and seek appointment with a doctor and talk about their treatment options.”
