Burglary group in Chile causes anger after recording a $3M jewelry store robbery

Chilean Nationals Involved in Jewelry Store Heist

Authorities report that four individuals from Chile broke into a jewelry store in Southern California, posing for video recordings of their crimes and later showcasing the stolen goods in an apartment.

The group allegedly created access by breaching the wall of Dr. Conkey’s Candy and Coffee Shop in Simi Valley, which led them into the safe of Five Star Jewelry and Watch Repair. They seemed quite aware of their actions, even recording parts of their heist.

In footage shared by the prosecutor’s office, the suspects can be seen using a crowbar during the break-in, sorting through stolen jewelry valued at over $3 million—this included various watches and bracelets. At one point, one of the crew even displayed their entire face to the camera, as if unaware of the potential consequences.

Ventura County District Attorney Eric Nasarenko commented on the situation, emphasizing the extensive planning and coordination that went into the robbery. “This level of organization and surveillance led to the decision to remove these individuals from society,” he stated, asserting that Ventura County would not accept such organized crime targeting their communities.

Two members of the group, Manuel Ibarra and Camilo Lara, each received sentences of four years and four months. Meanwhile, Heidi Trujillo was sentenced to four years. The fourth suspect, Sergio Andrés Mejía-Machuca, is set to be sentenced in March, as noted by the prosecutor’s office.

Before the robbery, the crew had surveilled the area, taking time to look for security cameras and inspecting the wall that connected the candy store to gain entry into the jewelry store’s safe.

On May 25, 2025, just five days after their initial sweep, they returned equipped with ropes, ladders, and various burglary tools, entering through the roof and making their way to the safe.

Upon their arrest on June 10, it was revealed that some suspects were found wearing stolen jewelry, while others had bags filled with items taken from the store.
