Nike has sparked a backlash from women by letting transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney promote the company’s apparel and launching a “Burn Bra Challenge” on TikTok.
The self-proclaimed “Southern Mom” said she was “tired” of Nike “pushing us away” before burning her sports bra and encouraging others to join the viral challenge.
“Real women, we are in every fight,” a woman who goes by her TikTok handle chatterbox.mama told her more than 140,000 followers on Tuesday.
“Since the 1960s, we have fought for the right to be women.
“Nike, you should be ashamed of yourself,” the TikTok influencer continued.
“You chose a little boy with no breasts and junk in his pants to represent a real woman.”
TikToker declared: “Nike, it’s over”
“I will never buy Nike products in my lifetime,” she said.
“And there are millions and millions of women like me.”
She then challenged another woman, “Burn your Nike bra…as a way to show our solidarity and how seriously we take recognition.”
“We are the queens. Your consumer hits you where it hurts. It’s in your pocket,” she said.
“I challenge all real women who are fed up with this nonsense. What a great night to burn your Nike bras.”
In the video, she can be seen putting two Nike-branded bras in the fireplace by the pool.
The Washington Post reached out to Mulvaney, the TikTok influencer behind the “Burn Bra Challenge” and Nike for comment.
Mulvaney’s sponsorship of brands such as Nike, Bud Light and Kate Spade has angered conservatives who say the companies are pushing an “awake” agenda.
Megyn Kelly has lashed out at the “breastless” Mulvaney over a deal where transgender social media influencers pitched sports bras for Nike.
“Nike is now sponsoring Dylan Mulvaney for the af-king sports bra,” Kelly said on SiriusXM’s “The Megyn Kelly Show” on Tuesday.
“Sorry, Dylan doesn’t have breasts.”
“Dylan was taking some kind of hormones, which turned Dylan into some kind of hormones… I don’t know what’s going on there, but those aren’t breasts.”
According to Kelly, “And Dylan doesn’t need a bra of any kind. Never mind a sports bra.”
Mulvaney, a TikTok influencer with over 10 million followers who transitioned from male to female during the COVID pandemic, recently started promoting Nike and Bud Light products on her social media accounts.
Last week, she posed in a sports bra to announce a paid partnership with Nike.
The post was seen by her 2 million followers on Instagram.
“Pay attention to the media. I’m entering the workout era,” Mulvaney wrote.
Her partnership with Bud Light has made celebrities such as Kid Rock and Travis Tritt pledge to boycott beer.
Mulvaney on Tuesday accused critics of bullying her because she was an “easy target.”
she said “Rosie O’Donnell and Moving Forward” Podcast Her trolls distort her language and slander the transgender community.
“The reason I think so… I’m an easy target is because I’m so new to this,” Mulvaney said.
“I think it’s more difficult to track a transgender woman who has been doing this for 20 years. They may think I have some chance…but what is their purpose?” Is it?”
“They don’t understand me or what I say or do, so they somehow take it out of context and use it against me. It’s very sad because everything I try to say is positive. I’m trying to connect with other people who may not understand me, to make people laugh, to make them feel like they’re being watched.”
